Two weeks ago I received a letter from a former crew chief of mine in Viet Nam. I last saw him going up a jungle penetrator to a medivac Huey. I have tried to contact this hero [no exageration] over the last 39 YEARS. I have responded to his request for information [he was unconcious for much of the day] and if he gives his permission I will give you a story that earned me the Silver Star and should have earned him at least a Distinguished Flying Cross.[I don't know what he got yet] Stand by for "the rest of the story" Nick

Well, after two loooong phone cons I find that he did, indeed get a DFC and has no objections to me telling the story here. I am waiting for copies of his citations so my memory doesn't leave anything out. Nick
