Whst is the proper torque and sequece for the bottom bolts on a Rem. 700 PPS ?

Smokey, I believe it's 65 INCH-pounds, but don't remember sequence. The reason I say believe is it depends on the stock. I it's the HS Precision with the aluminum blocks- 65 INCH pounds.
I was going to say 65 inch-pounds also. I don't tighten in sequence just snug up with a screw driver to making sure its bedded correctly. Then go back and forth until my T wrench snaps it only does 65 inch-pounds and isn't adjustable. Maybe a call to Remington could obtain the correct sequence. If you find out please post.
If you skim-bed you may not need more than 55 inch-pounds. The key thing is the receiver sits as firmly unstressed as you can get it. I've not seen a HS stock yet that wasn't improved by skim bedding.
I looked around and found a reference that says front fires, then rear. But it also says to use three steps, culminating in 65 INCH pounds (front, rear, front, rear, front, rear) but I don't know how to accomplish this as I use the same tool Rick mentioned. I have a complete "deployment kit" (the tools and spares box that goes with a M24 SWS) with a few little extra's I found useful.
Thank guys for the information. It does have the HS stock. I was told by 1 to tighten the rear bolt and then only snug the front. Didnt sound right to me. What's your take.??

With the butt on the ground (muzzle up) tighten the front screw to about 50 inch pounds just short of clicking over then do the rear to the same.
Now go back to the front and take it home (64 inch-pounds), go to rear screw and repeat.

The sequence I use is
Front - 15in/lbs
Rear - 15in/lbs
Front 30in/lbs
Rear 30in/lbs
and so on to the final torque value.
Wood - 40 -45in/lbs
Wood bedded - 50 - 55in/lbs
'Glass - 65in/lbs
FWIW the torque sequence is slightly different because of the angled screw.
