Hi all,
I was going through some old stored boxes from my high school years and found this t -shirt Mom saved. At age 15, I was a bona-fide Devil Pup at Camp Pendleton for 10 days in July 1963. Not counting ex-military football coaches and my dad's tales of WWII Navy, it was my first exposure to the military. I still remember the 3 a.m. fire drills, the gas chamber, hundreds of push-ups and the climb up "Old Smokey". I grew up a lot in those 10 days.
Devil Pups was a take-off of the Devil Dogs nickname that was an indoctrination program for guys 13-18, and was sponsored by the Retired Officer Corps of the Marine Reserve. I don't know how long it lasted, probably went away when VN heated up.
Anyone else go through it?
By the way, the size is a medium......don't think I'll be wearing it to any reunions!
