Just completed another M-40 sniper restoration project. Took me about a year on this one. I placed pictures of this late 6 million rifle in my album at: http://www.jouster.com/forums/album.php?albumid=156

Enjoy!

I still have some of the retro ring/base sets we made for Remington and Chuck Mawhinny if you want to get closer.

Where did you find the Brown case? I have the green version for the A1 but have not come across the brown one as of yet.

I compared the swivels with the ones on another late 6,257,30X M40 that I have. They are identical. The 6,257,30X M40 is an original rifle, one of 19, that were sent to Sionics, Inc. in 1969. These rifles were modified to accept the Sionics supressor. It was a SF contract. So, I believe the rifle (6,257,242) is complete with the exception of the serial number on the scope (its off a few numbers) and the un numbered base.

By the way, the swivels are 1.50" on both rifles.

Dan:

Thank you. You are right, they are fun to do but they are getting harder to restore them right. I accumulated a lot of M40 parts and scopes years ago (in my youth). Have enough for one more restoration.

Just have to find one more original reciever!

1 shot,

I think I know where we are off on the swivel topic, if you measure the swivel inside to inside its about 1.5" but the flat that the sling sits on is 1.25" so they are called 1.25"
