Has anyone ever seen an M1905 PAL 16" modified to a "Bowie or Clip" point? I have all the other variants + contractors. This is the only one I`m missing+after 5+years I`m starting to wonder if I`m looking for something that may not exist. If anyone can help,it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Yes. I used to collect the cutdowns, had about 60 at one time or another. Two of them were PAL M1905E1s. Both were spear point modified by AFH, one 1942 and one 1943.

Thanks very much,Partestres. At least now I know I`m not wasting time looking for a non-existant bayonet. Joe

I had beak point (Bowie style) cutdowns from OL, UFH, WT and UC (mods made by both UFH and AFH). In the 20 years or so I was collecting them, I never ran across a PAL or AFH with a beak point (although that doesn't mean they don't exist). Most of the beak points I had were from 1942 (but I did have a couple from 1943) and most of the 1943 cutdowns were spear point (incl. PAL). I don't remember the details, but I seem to recall there were some issues with the durability of the beak point tips which may have caused a shift to predominantly spear points. HTH.

Generally, it was the shape of the fuller that determined whether the bayonet was to be cut down to a spear point or a beak point. The bayonets with the wider square fuller were found to be weaker at the point when cut down to a spear point. It was determined that cutting these wide square fuller bayos to a beak point left them with a stronger point.

Have beak points from all mfg`s except PAL. Thanks to all that replied.
