1907 type chrome bayonet

Gentleman. A friend gave me a bayonet and I am not sure what it is. At first glance it appears to be a standard Enfield 1907 sword bayonet that has been chromed. I don’t recognise the circular makers stamp and can’t read it as the chrome fills much of the stamping. The birds head shaped pommel has a less prominent beak then my old Wilkinson 1907. No scabbard. What have I got?
For comparison I have pictured it with my bog standard 1907 and yes I know the grip screws are on the wrong side. I cleaned it up and put them back wrong and have only just noticed.

Hope you can get some solid info. If it makes you feel any better, I bought an Arisaka bayonet in England that was chromed and had a dragon on it. I think it may have been modified though...LOL

Never been a fan of chrome. When chromed bayonets come up for auction here they are often described as “ceremonial” or “parade”. Could be an element of truth in that but I always suspect that an otherwise decent bayonet has been ruined by some clown. There are people out there who would chrome a tank if they could.

Just a side note, Many Pre war regulars would have even their Messkits Nickleplated for inspections.

Yes. Although my experience is mostly with the USGI stuff as I recall Remington made bayonets for the British SMLE between April and December, 1915. Do you see the 10 15 marking on your blade? That tells you that it was made in October, 1915.

I bought a couple 1907 bayonets from Smokey Mountain Knife Works several years ago. One of them is a Remington made blade like the one picced above(not chrome though).

I did a bit of research on it...and I guess Remington filled an order for approx 100,000 1907 blades...which wasn't a deal for Remington..as they were tooled up to make blades for the British ordered P14 rifles. The P14. M1917 bayonets being quite similiar to the 1907 bayonets.

Well it COULD hve been for some parade or honour guard detai, but you'll never know.
I had one of them chromed display sets, canteen, messkit, etc.
Complicated and unpleasant subject I had almost forgot.
