I picked this up on a trade at $550 I figure wholesale on import refits is over $400 so I was safe. 1928 Hex receiver. It is 100% numbers matching. The scope base is electro penciled with the rifle serial number. I think it is an aoriginal sniper and original mount (arsenal stamps to left of serial number) The scope may be repro though. I just don't know. Although, the bluing is not even on the scope which seems original, but the sight post is extremely dark and the scope looks like new.

Please take a look at the photos and let me know if you can confirm any of my speculation.

Many of the original 91/30 snipers were stamped with a CH on the top of the barrel where the serial number is. The screws on the top of the adjustment dial from what I have been told should be round headed on the originals. The repos are flat.

Not real. Reproduction scope, 1928 dated low wall rifle. PU snipers were built on either Tula or Izhevsk rifles after 1941.

How can you tell the scope is repro?

Style and font of the engraving on the scope, and the screws on the turret adjusting rings are flat instead of domed.

Thanks Hal, I'll hang onto it until prices jump up on the Mosins. Shouldn't take long, the wholesale deals are running out. I figured on the trade I would break even at worst and have an attention grabber atleast.

Please shoot it first. I have owned and fired several sniper rifles from a #4Mk1T to a 03A4 and the simple ZF41, and the Russian rifle is not surpassed. It is long and somewhat cumbersome, but shoots like a dream, is accurate and has a scope with more power.

Not worried about it, I have a Finnish sniper already. Probably atleast half fake too but seems too obscure and odd for a fake. Either way, it was the same deal as this one. I couldn't build a fake for the same price so I traded for it.
