I was at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery today for a funeral. Havng served in the Navy for two years as a dental officer, I immediately recognize HM and DT rates, and of course my Navy shooting friends were mostly gunner's mates (GM) but in looking at graves, I noticed several were obviously 2nd class petty officers, so... What rate is a PV-2? Another, a chief, was an ADRC. Air Defense Radioman Chief? Holbrook? Anyone...? Internet was no help, told me it was a Canadian Army private even with USN entered.

A lot of the PV's seemed to be Korea vets I thought.

I pride myself on my military knowledge but 7 years of Army ROTC included no
training in USN enlisted rates.... Mine was OJT.

Well I do not feel so stupid now because the list of various Navy rates is as long as WAR AND PEACE. PV's are aircraft painters and an ADR is an aviation motor machinist specializing in reciprocating engines. As to why all of these guys are buried at DFW National Cemetery, just look across the lake from the Cemetery, there is the old closed Grand Prairie N.A.S. (NAS DALLAS) and VOUGHT AIRCRAFT...

Thanks!

Wnen I visited Halifax Canada in 2002, I was shown the grave of a Civil War Medal of Honor sailor. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me at the time

ADRC is Aviation Machinist Mate {Reciprocating} Chief.
