Much as I like the CMP auctions, sometimes they really give me a chuckle.

Up for bid, M1917 bayonet, with the notation "See pictures before bidding".

Uh, guys. I'm not bidding on the wrapper! :eusa_wall:

The Title says M1917 bayonet, the description & tag lead to believe it is a SA dated 1917

It could be original or reparked finish, no guarantee. Please see pictures before bidding.

Fits nicely into the old "Pig in a poke" category.

They had an in the wrap .22 awhile back on the auction.Enough people questioned it being in the condition it was advertised in they opened it for inspection. It was refinished and if I remember correctly missing the sights and clip.Buyer beware.

Was that auction corrected? It says US 1917 now, not M1917.
Still, even that title is misleading. If it's a 1905 it would be better to say US 1917 dated

I don't buy wrappers anymore either. I once bought a British L1A3 bayonet. New/Unissued in govt. wrap. Turned out to be a rework and repack. I was the only bidder and got it for less than its worth even after figuring in postage.

SA marked 1917 bayonet? Or SA manufacture 1917 dated bayonet? Or 1917 bayonet? Each a different animal...one imaginary, two desirable. Rifle, shotgun or air bayonet?
