Been looking for an affordable one for awhile. Not in the best of shape, and the bolt and handguard do not match, but are correct pieces. Bore is a little frosty, but shines and has good deep rifling.

Looks to be in VG to G condition to me. More have m/m bolts then matched, I have two one m/m bolt, other force matched bolt. They say slings are 'worth' a hundred buck but don't know anyone who would pay that. Yours may be a rebuild but it may be the pictures---butt and side plate, bayo lug should all be in the white. Easy to fix!

It's just the pics, metal in the white, but with a good patina on it.

Nice 33/40. They are getting tough to find in any condition. Hundreds were sacrificed for the actions to build lightweight sporters back in the late 40's and 1950's. If you are going to shoot it, be forewarned, they kick pretty good with full power military loads.

Thats OK. I like shooting my Jungle Carbine and my M38 Mosin carbine.
Patina----another word for rust, crap and corruption---get rid of it!

disagree strongly with this advice, clean, apply heavy coat of Breakfree, scrub the bore with hot soapy water, dry thouroughly, scrub with brass brush & patches til clean, breakfree the bore..................

No, that's Seller's Patina. i.e. what all that rust, crap and corruption is called on a gun a guy is trying to sell you.
Clean off loose dirt, stop active corrosion, and try to keep your pets from crapping on your guns! :)
Overcleaning can lower the value of a WWII Mauser considerably.

I've owned a few of those 33/40's. The buttstock on them are monsters. lol Everytime I've held one I've always wanted to go buy a watermelon and smash it with the buttstock. I think it would be fun. It's a club and a half.
Heck I always thought the recoil on an as issued K98 in 8X57 was fairly moderate/gentle... if you want to discover recoil fire a 5 1/2 lb Mossberg 3 1/2" 12 ga pump with a skinny stock & cheap recoil pad using heavy loads, worse than any centerfire rifle I've ever shot.......

Try an Enfield Martini carbine with full Mk7 loads. It is a wake up call for sure.
