M40 Out Of A Rem 40X

Have a CMP Rem 40X standard barrel 22lr., that I would like to make into a replica of a M40. Anyone have any suggestions about a stock and what scope to use to get close to what he real thing would look like. I need to have it reparked, and I.m sending it to Remington. Would the park used on their M40 replica if they would do it be a good idea?.

Regular M40 used a Redfield 3-9 power w/ the range finder reticle. Redfield rings and bases. Stock was uncheckered wood similar to the BDL but no fancy tip etc so it won't look right. Fellow in PA has reproduction stocks. Or find a sportsman 78 stock and inlet the mag well.

I live to be surprised but I don't see how that plan can be made to work. You're talking about spending a lot of $ to tear up a valuable classic American .22 rifle that's worth considerably more as-is than the bubba-rig you'd end up with after conversion, assuming the best of workmanship. Try to find an early 700 Varmint Special, .308 Win., w/ good bore and good wood. Get out your sandpaper.

I believe the intent is to make an "M40" .22lr "trainer" if you will. I may be mistaken, but that is what I gathered. Converting it to 7.62 centerfire is like converting a Vespa to a V12 Super Boss Hoss. If you got enough money you can get there but why?

Oh, OK, I'll assume that's what he has in mind, in which case his .22 is already close enough for plenty of training. I have a .22 40X heavy bbl that's near-identical in shape, length & weight to my 40XB 7.62 long-range rifle. Back when I was doing a lot of match shooting the .22 at 100 yds was great practice, and cheap, for the same fundamentals necessary to hold hard, watch the front sight & squeeze light all the way to 1,000 yds.
