Posible USMC RIA M1905 with M1910 scabbard?

I ran across a M1905 bayonet in a M1910 scabbard today at a not so local shop. It is an RIA dated 1917. The blade itself was decent, but nothing special condition wise. What was interesting was that when I pulled the rawhide liner out of the canvas scabbard it had quite a list of places written on it in pencil. The list of places started with Paris Island and included the Philippines and Cuba. This piece is not being sold as a USMC bayonet and I doubt the seller even knows about the markings.

Now that I have returned home and started to research what I saw I am wondering if I should have brought it home with me. The M1910 scabbard has a drain grommet on the back side of the leather tip which seems as though it may be a USMC trait.

What are the odds this is really a USMC piece vs. a fake or fantasy piece?

It's hard not seeing pics. But if it had a canvas scabbard, I would pay $175 for it without even thinking and probably a hair more. Regardless of condition or USMC connection.

If you want to make a little, buy it and sell it to me. :)

They are closed today but maybe I can make a trip back if they are open tomorrow or the day after Christmas.

Thanks Fred. There are two more rows of locations written on the scabbard body but they are tough to read. The last one marked on the scabbard is Norfolk Navy Yard.

Now I'm gonna start testing the scabbards of every web cover to see if it comes off easily. Maybe not a good thing while at shows... we'll see.

I tried that on another M1905 I was looking at for sale last night.

Once the cover was removed, I saw that 2/3 of the rawhide was missing and the wood under it was all busted up and it saved me from spending any money!

That's a pretty neat piece. It' looks like the early type Model 1910 scabbard. They were only made for a couple of years starting in 1910.
