Goo, very nice job, you had way too much fun with this project. I need to make one for my Chinertl. I especially like those smaller pieces of pipe in the end caps, really adds a lot of protection. Did the original have something like that?

i dunno. whatever the original had, it probably exceeds my skill level. the pieces of pipe are also pvc.

The original did not have and internal support. my original does not have any stencil on it. You can make the cap strap from the leggings straps, I can make you one. I have the end caps and rivet sets.

Dumb question I'm sure, but why case the scope? Why remove it from the rifle? Wouldn't you have to mount and re-zero it? Kind of a waste Id think.

Cool repro though

Just a guess but in rain or to protect it when not in use for a while. The scope mount system re-zeros fairly well on mine. The real case has a funnel shaped disk at the bottom with a spring under it to force the scope up and the cone shape top forces it down on the spring and centers it in the tube. the concave shape at each end of the tube keeps the scope centered and the spring on the bottom prevents jarring it hit on the bottom but not the top. Rubber foam on the top and bottom would be better.

just wanted to build a replica case is all.

too many people don't build nothing these days.

probably why the country is in such deep sh*t.

anyway, i found a canvas strap that i forgot i had. its a bit closer to the original case now.

the stencil is totally inaccurate. just felt like stickin' it on there.

its not like somebody with half a brain (like an old marine) is gonna confuse it for the real thing.

if i shake the case with the scope in it, nothing rattles.

leaving the whole thing a bit 'rough around the edges' so as to imply antiquity

goo, that's damn impressive. It passes as the real deal if you don't have a real one next to it for a comparison.

I just like the whole garage engineering aspect of it, turning scraps into something. I've got some sprinkler work to do when the snow melts and I'm thinking I'll make my own version for my Chinertl.

I think you could sell them to less creative humans.

good idea, john.
except the latches are a little hard to come by. i took them off an old mil surplus container i had laying around. ground off the rivets with a dremel tool and re riveted them to the scope case. the strap would also be a bit scarce, i think.
i will keep your idea in mind, though.

jim in salt lake, i'll be looking foward to photos.

you can use my stencil (one for each line), you would probably not need the serial number line.

not accurate, as i mentioned but i thought it was a nice touch.

final touch. stuck a utility belt on it

I have seen those type latches at a hardware store as replacement item for tool boxes. ACE hardware I think.

If you decide to build one for sale I might be interested if it isn't too expensive. I just received my rifle back from Chuck in Denver and mounted my Chinertl to it. Looks like it might shoot reasonably well.
