I picked up a Stevens M77E heat shield thinking it was for a 520-30. It has a plum patina front, 5welded spots on the front, 21x4 vents, 2 sets of demples and three allen head screws. No markings. Did these have any ID marks?

I don't know what you've got there but a M77E was a riot gun, it wouldn't have had a heat shield.

It is my understanding that the Gov. placed and order with Savage/Stevens for heatshields to fit the M77e being used in Viet Nam for field installation, but that only a few were actually shipped and installed.

Was it an Ebay find like this? I had one on this franken-riot. Nice piece and would like another for the project bin.

yes it is just like yours, but it wasn't on ebay. mine also had a M-5 bayonet with it. I put both on Gun Broker as a package deal. I think the auction goes off early next week. Search trench, riot.
