I have this French curved blade 1842 bayonet and was wondering which French musket it was made to fit.
Several possibilities as it was used on several French two band muzzle loading rifles-
Chatelleraut Model 1842 Rifle D'Orleans
Model 1846 St.Etienne Rifle
Model 1853 St.Etienne Rifle
Model 1859 St.Etienne Rifle

Thanks JBinIll. I do not have any of those muskets, so I will list it in for sale.
Is the barrel ring on this one split with a screw through it?That would be a M1866 bayonet for the Gras rifle if it is.They look similar except for that distinction.Look here for pictures of some of the French 1842 and 1866 bayonets.Click on By Country then France-

JBinIll. No split ring. This iron barrel ring is solid with a roster comb and a 7/8" hole for the gun barrel, which would fit a 69cal gun barrel. The sword breaker hook has a flat ball on the end of it's curve. Bob.
