In comparison how has your retirement or other investments performed? (haha). Awesome piece and just a reflection of how vintage firearms have increased in price over the past 30+ years. Is the barrel correct for the serial number? If all is correct your ROI should be pretty nice for a $40 investment.

$40.00 in 1978 bought what $130.00 buys today. If the pistol is all correct, it will bring at least $1,500.00 on GB.

I would have to check the barrel for original. I have a Barstow in it now. I did take it to an FFL dealer who sells the old .45s and he said it was sellable in the Charlotte market for $2250. He also wanted to buy it and triple my initial investment! It was another in the right place at the right time moment, when I got it. It does pay to shop around and look.

Yes, I can remember when I could go into my local gunshop/hardware store and pickup ex-military 1911s for that but, not today.

Jon,
Nice buy. Back in '76 I picked up a pre-war Gov't. model along with a first year Ace for 300. The Ace had a lot of the finish worn off but the Gov't mdl. was beautiful. The guy threw in his brown US flap holster with the guns. They are both "safe" and sound today.
