The auction is over now, but I was watching this one for fun. Seller had almost no description and darn few pictures. Presuming the buyer asked a few priviate questions with the seller to confirm bore condition and markings, he got a great buy in my estimation. Just an observation.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=333309695 Part of the bolt is not SC, stock is a replacement etc etc and for just 1200.. I'de rather have the 550 one if I didn't have a couple already.
Speaking of good buys; this is my pick for the week, you simply must have this one in your safe!!! http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=332960384
AND, it has a very unique feature seldom seen...hint.

Allen,
Look closely. The rifle may be a restored drill rifle sitting in a reproduction stock. The five-word description leaves a lot unsaid.

Kurt, I think that '17 has the "SSSSSSS" option. super secret, seldom seen, sniper sight sytem. What makes it a collector rifle is that it contains parts from every manufacturing supplier and contractor:)
JB. I suspect you are looking at the mark above the ejector pin, and the cut-off is sitting in the "I'll just hide this blemish" position. However, I'll still maintain that the rifle sold for $400 less than a Gibbs or Creedmoor recovered rifle. While I don't think the SC was welded, I would have asked the seller in a PM. Clearly not a collector piece, but probably a really affordable shooter.
Allen, you have an Eagle eye! :headbang:

Not often seen, a 17 with parts from all three, AND an SSSSSSS sight. I suspect it's one of only a handful of NM 17's with the very rare Lyman peep sight. :icon_silent:

No. I'm looking at the file/grinding marks on the receiver shoulder directly in front of the cutoff, along with the generous bevel on the receiver shoulder in front of the cutoff. Some drill rifle receivers and cutoffs were just spot tacked in that location and are easily cleared and cleaned up. And the presence of a reproduction stock suggests that the rifle at one time didn't have a real stock, which is indicative of a possible drill rifle.
I don't disagree that the rifle was fairly priced, even for a recovered drill rifle. But, if it is a recovered drill rifle, then the rifle is no steal.
My 2c worth.

agree with JB...first rifle priced at 550.00 is a Drill rifle.
