Was watching a 1966 episode of the old tv series Mission Impossible and saw what was surely a t-99 in takedown form. looked for real. After they inserted the barrel into the receiver a threaded thumb style bolt was turned into the assembly from the right side of the barrel/receiver joint. The stock area on either side of the joint was clad in a steel sleeve which had the profile of the stock. Was this simply a decent appearing hollywood fake or was there ever such a type 99? Just wonder if the Japanese ever made a takedown?:icon_scratch:

It is a paratrooper model and thats exactly how they work. I had a bit of fun a while back, I bought one and had it shipped to the local pawn shop. When I picked it up, as they were calling in the background check and had their backs turned I took it apart. Then when they turned around again I said "What did y'all do? was it like this when you got it?" There was a long long awkward silence....LOL

And some pics of one I had for a while....................... When money is tight, it's good to have a gun that you can get $1,500 out of QUICK

That is a type 2, there were 2-3 experimantal versions, one on the 38 carbine. The bolt handle should screw out on the type 2.

Thanks Gents! What I saw looked a little too good to be Hollywood gimmickery. Makes me wonder where that old girl might be today if it even exists at all. Some of the movie armourers had rather extensive collections of weapons.

I saw a Takedown Type 2 at the USMC Museum at Quantico... It's the bottom rifle in the picture below. Very interesting indeed!

Rare type I has the screw out bolt.

These are getting pricey in any condition.

I have seen a couple extra nice cased sporters made from these critters.

An old Twighlight Zone and The Manchurian Candidate feature these.

Book I have, really just a quick overview does not mention a type 1, but says experimental "unofficially designated type 100" had the bolt handle that screwed out. I mis-read! Does not say how many type '100's made.

Come to think of it... I do remember seeing this in the Manchurian Candidate! What an incredible movie, and Sinatra is superb!!!
