Ok, I have an SA receiver 1444xxx with an SA barrel dated 1-32. From what I have found,
these two components are about two years apart. Would this be an SA assembly, or something
somebody put together later? Thanks for any ideas.

without pictures its hard to say for sure,
but thats a common deal with that vintage of 03. iv seen 28 to 33 on that serial number range.
I have 1455430 with a 3-33 barrel this was during a period where The Armory was assembling rifles on an as needed basis with whatever parts were available.

From 1932 through 1935, serial numbers and barrel dates were thoroughly mixed. SA made barrels and receivers and turned them in to Ordnance Stores as loose parts without assembling them together. Your receiver and barrel date are probably an original combination.

Hey, thanks for all the info. Yes, the assembly was professionally done, but I questioned the
serial date combo. No Hatcher hole, but NS bolt. Currently in a WWII "C" stock. Headspace
is good, but finish is well worn. This info gives me the incentive to carefully clean it up and
go shooting.
