As the seller wrote, this is one of the so-called "Red Star" rifles. With grasping grooves and in that kind of condition, it won't come cheap.
I saw another on Little John's Auction that went for $1500 plus the usual buyer fees. It was a later one without grasping grooves. Although it was not listed on the data base I maintain on these rifles, it lacked the usual British proof stamps and I felt confident enoughg to add it to the list of Red Star rifles. I felt that was a pretty good price and might have been tempted had not a L/L M1 not caught my eye!
Here's a link to the lot containing the Remington I saw on Little John's:

I'm not disputing this rifle's authenticity, but wasn't one of the key attributes of these rifles the lack of the "U.S." designation on the receiver ring?

The rifle in the Little John's Auction was indeed listed in one of the original Red Star data bases! Did you not get the message I sent you?

No.
It is a fact that one of the rifles was mis-stamped and the "U.S." failed to engrave on the receiver ring. But, that was nothing more than an isolated Remington factory worker mistake.

I checked and indeed you are right. Thanks for the correction.

I do believe you could cut yourself with the raised metal on the receiver stamp. Very crisp.
