View Full Version : Colt Commercial Finish
How did the finish on the Model 1911A1 Comercial pistols of the early 1930's compare to the finish on the Government contract models? Where is a good source showing the Commercial finish in color from that period?
Top is commercial and bottom is military

The commercial pistols were more polished than the military pistols, and the degree of polish affects the final color. It is very hard to represent the true color on the internet, all the way from different cameras recording color differently to the angle of the screen you are viewing the pistol on. If I tilt my monitor back at the top the blue gets much more vivid, but if I tilt the screen in at the bottom the blue gets lighter.
This is about as close a representation of the commercial Colt oven blue of the mid 1930's as I can get while viewing the monitor from as perpendicular as possible.

Johnny P, thanks for the great photo. Does anyone know of a book having color shots of the various Colt 1911 and other Model 1911 manufacturer's pistols are shown
Did you really need to use the Super Match to make your point :-) beautiful pistol !!!!
