Over the weekend I glommed several rifles and this Yugo Mauser barreled action. I'm trying to determine whether this is an M48, 24/47 or 24/52C receiver. The barrel is unidentified with an unknown caliber.

The auction description advises that it is a Czech Mauser, but I'm not sure what that is based on.

CZECH MAUSER RECEIVER MARKED 44
CAL UNKNOWN, W/ LUEPOLD SCOPE BASE & SS 24" FLUTED TARGET BRL, SER# W23505.

Any opinions are gratefully received.

I have one just like it. When I got it it had a sewer pipe barrel and firewood stock so I turned it into a nice .308 Win sporter. Works great shoots great I knocked a mulie doe over with it last season, burger for the beans. Make your self a good deer rifle out of it, enjoy your rifle.

Guffey, If I had to guess, I say it is an m48 also.

I picked up the barreled receiver last week..I popped the scope mount off it and it is an M48...

It is chambered in .308 and has an 8 groove barrel. I've never seen a barrel with 8 grooves before. It looks unfired.

Good Catch! I can't ID the barrel maker but that barrel is a very expensive (custom?) item! With that said, the holes for the scope mount look to be a little boogered up. Being of the suspicious type I would have to figure this is a project gone wrong, some how and would double check everything... headspace, mount alignment, everything but the barrel is worth more than 2 or 3 M48 actions. JMHO

I checked headspace with a Field gauge and it looks good.

Now you need a stock and see how it shoots with good ammo.

I sure do. I'm working on that now.

How can a chamber length be checked with a field gage, and look good?

Oh, I'm sorry. Allow me to rephrase, Your Honor...The bolt would not close on a .308 field gauge. I was looking at the bolt at the point that it stop turning and it looked gooood.

Oh, I'm sorry. Allow me to rephrase, Your Honor...

I can check the length of a chamber with a field reject gage, no go-gage and I can modify a go-gage to measure the length of a chamber from go to infinity, I considered you could do the same.
