Doesn't look like any Unertl scope that I have seen.

I stand corrected after doing some research..............apparently very limited production with a lot of them being scrapped.

USMC requirements for sniping equipment are based on so many rifles per company (or regiment or division). Their overall requirements have never been huge because relatively speaking it's a small, stable force. The 10x Unertl scope first entered service in the 70's. At least one contract was let to have the originals refurbished. If they are being scrapped at this point its probably because a lot of them are now worn out.

It's a unique piece. Very few of them are legitimately in civilian hands. Its also probably the first purpose built US military sniping scope. Up to that point US snipers basically used off the shelf hunting or target scopes with mediocre results.

US Optics did some of the refurbs as well they built a replica, MST 100. Hopefully this will get them to fire up production again. Id like to get a repro to build a clone M40.

Apparently a tough scope to make the bodies are steel and overbuilt.
