My friend Colonel Stratton (Major at the time) purchased several weapons from the Marine Corps, this one a 7-43 Underwood, as you can see purchased in 1949 for $31.26! Only upgrade appears to be the adjustable sight, muzzle just a tick over 1.0, original stock with cartouche and 'S-HB/flaming bomb' in sling well. In a senior moment I shot a four round 2 MOA today. He was a Camp Perry shooter, perhaps he picked this carbine for a reason. Thought you might enjoy. Semper Fi, Don

MOOORE PIC, Please!
Looks nice. Likely the Major wanted one for home defense, that what mine is now dedicated. Did smoothed the feed ramp to allow soft-nose ammo to feed without stuttering.
From your picture it appears that the magazine release was also changed to the type 4 for use with the 30 round magazines. It sure looks like a nice Standard Products carbine. Don't be afraid to take it out and shoot it now and then as it was made to be fired.

Thank you Tuna, the barrel is marked 7-43 Underwood but with a bright light I believe I see the manufacturer name under the rear sight starting with an 'S'. Semper Fi, Don

Someone stated that the magazine catch was modified for the 30 round magazine. Can you use a 30 round magazine on the old catch??
You can but it's not as stable as with the last designed catch as it supports the magazine on the left side. The weight of a fully loaded 30 round magazine is double that of the 15 round ones so the support is a good thing to have.

Got a nice email from the Carbine Club Newsletter editor noting: "
We appreciate your generosity on that receipt. *The Carbine Club has only had 2 other reports of "GI carbine receipts" since we started collecting data and publishing a newsletter in 1976." S/F, Don
