Friends -
I've got a really nice M1884 trapdoor that I really love to shoot. It's got a huge bore - .463 so I've been casting bullets from a custom mould. All's fine. But, I'm getting old and lazy.
I wonder - to save the step of lube-sizing (custom sizing die) would lubing with Liquid Alox and shooting the as-cast bullets work? My load chronographs as 1475 fps.
What do you think? Am I going to lead like crazy? Or, can I make life easier and get more shooting for less hassle?
Any comments would be very welcome.

It works for me and I shoot cast a lot faster than you do.

Thanks, I will. BTW, I've heard some people cut Liquid Alox with mineral spirits. I've always used it "straight" with pistol bullets. That make sense to you?

Like you I use it straight, what would cutting it do? I don't think I would want to use it watered down.

Thanks again, BudT Now I'm inspired to do some casting, liquid aloxing....and, best of all shooting the old trapdoor. I really appreciate your help.
Well your welcome sir, what little help it was. We have a old fellow here in town that does a lot of bullet casting he claims he is shooting them at 2,500 fps without any leading. I have seen him do just that and without any leading, I don't know what his formula is. His last name is McCoy.

McCoy? Probably shoots roundballs from a muzzleloader at the Hatfields. 2500 fps is amazing. Will be casting tomorrow!
Yep he's a real McCoy, no round balls a 30-06.

The mineral spirits helps the mule snot to get distributed a bit more evenly, and a bit thinner. Also helps them dry faster.

Thanks Madsenshooter. Since I've never tried it thinned I think I'll stick with the original recipe.
