I had a gentleman on another forum offer me this 1899 Krag carbine that was in an attic or closet for many years. H said the receiver has some surface pitting and the insects burrowed some "trails" in the stock. The bore is in good condition, the stock has a nice inspection stamp and it appears original. For $325 I couldn't resist a "project".

I haven't gotten it yet, but will go into more (picture) detail when I do.

I think you did good for $325. I would have jumped at that one too!

Great rifle and not what I'd call a project. A little cleaning and that's it. I'm happy for you and more than a lot jealous. I'd love to find a rifle like that for 325. I wish my carbine had the 1901 sight.

The stock will definitely need some work (you can see it in the photo) and supposedly, the handguard is missing about 25% (probably the "thin" part). I may send both to Rick Borecky, if he'll agree to handle it. Still, for $325, a pretty good deal. I'm hoping to at least get it to "shooter" status. I have another 1899 carbine, but it has a small crack in the stock next to the rear tang, so I've avoided shooting it.

Oh, I checked the serial number, 354,812, and no SRS "hit". :( I have six Krags and have yet to get one.

Call me a mother!

You'd certainly qualify as a "Krag nut" - I don't know if you'd pass the physical for the other!! :D

The carbine should show up Mon. I'll give a full report with pictures.

Nothing wrong with that carbine, Rick. Great score!

Rick, very lucky! A salty piece, but... A shooter!
