what it is said to be: a cal. .22 RF training/target rifle made by Springfield Armory, originally manufactured as a 1922M1, and later rebuilt (as most were) to the latest M2 standard.
The stock is of the early 'as issued' style, rather than the 'for sales' style, which resembles the cal. .30 NRA Sporter stock.

It's an M1 modified to an M2. The stock is the original M1 stock but has been redone over the years. That's to much money for the rifle. Just my opinion.

I concur with what mhb and Weasel have said. The rifle has been rebarrled and refinished. There is no mention of the bolt being numbered to the receiver. That may mean the bolt is not numbered to the receiver or it may mean the seller doesn't even know the bolts were numbered. The metal finish, bolt, magazine and barrel are not original.

What sling is correct. They seemed to be all proudeuce for Marines but some were sold of the line. Per letter

The sling that was used on the 1922 series Springfields during their production years, 1922 through 1942, was the Model 1907 sling. When I first handled an M2 Springfield in college ROTC in 1955 it was equipped with the web sling. I don't understand your comment about the Marines. The Springfield .22's were sold to NRA members as new items and later as military surplus, issued to DCM affiliated gun clubs, and issued to army posts, camps and stations the National Guard and other military organizations. I am confident a very small percentage of those produced were used by the USMC.
