I picked up this Mauser 98 and it is a little confusing,
Almost all the markings are gone, other than the serial and model, but there are no import markings. The bolt only has a number on the handle, but it is not the same as the receiver.
I did shoot it and it is very accurate.
Any thoughts ? possible value ?

Certainily could be a russian capture. A bunch were imported and they looked arsenal refinished. I bought a couple when turkish ammo was real cheap. They are accurate and shoot well.

That may be a Bubba Capture. And Bubba ground all the value out of it as a collectable. Keep it as your shooter.

May not be a bubba ground. The chech's ground off a lot of the Nazi markings off during refinish.

Can only guess at this point. A complete tear down may uncover more markings but I doubt it. It appears to be a Yugo or Czech rework. Russia generally did not grind markings off German rifles, this one has been completely ground and renumbered. Serial is on wrong side of reciever and German bolt serials were on the flat at root of handle. Reciever top has what appers to be remains of a national crest and side rail was ground and Mod.98 added too far back for a K98k. No bore marking on barrel either. Doubt the reciver/barrel is German at all. The Yugo's and Czechs used many Czech barrel/actions and built them into K98k with left over parts from German production and captured rifles.
One reason RC's have been so popular is because they have such a large number of various markings, some rather scarse, as it was fairly early in the war. Most GI bringbacks are from later in the war.

Looks like a Yugo capture/rework to me. Most got the Yugoslavian communist crest, but a few retained original receiver markings or were ground but not remarked with the Yugo coat of arms.
