I have not been able to find any Bullseye powder for some time so have been looking for any type of powder that I could use for reloading .45 ACP ammo. I found a pound of the IMR HI-SKOR 800-X and snapped it up. I'm using 230 Gr. FMJ and would like to know what kind of loads to use.
Anyone out there have any experience with this powder. Don't want hot loads, just a comfortable target load.
From the Hodgdon web site. Start at 6.3 grs for a 230 FMJ at 817 fps. Top load of 7.0 grs for 900 fps.

Thanks Tuna for the quick response. I'll reload some this week.
both 700x, and 800x make good all around pistol powders. you might even find they burn cleaner than your old stand by.

I'm actually partial to HS-6 (8.6 grains) for 185gr Berry's Plated Bullets in my .45 ACP loads. I use Bullseye in my 10.4 Italian Ordnance loads though...

Nothing wrong with 800x. Did well for me however
It meters like gravel so progressive type powder measures will toss all kinds of flawed charges with it.

I had the same issue with 700-X in 9mm and .45 ACP with Dillon 550. In 9mm a little variation means a lot, which is why I went to Titegroup. However the 700-X was very accurate when I could keep the charge more or less consistent.
If 700-X or 800-X were the only powders i could get for pistol, wouldn't be the worst thing that can happen.
