7mmMAG over 160gr Sierra Gamekings?
Have first edition post 64 M70, and want to develop loads for hunting.
Did try some RE19 (only thing available) and was disappointed with grouping using Hornady 162 AMAX.
Want to try the Sierra and different powder.
Thanks.
Most of the loads for the 7mm Rem. mag. that I shot were with IMR4350.
Powders in the slower range like 4350 up to the likes of H870 work in the 7 magnum. It's a case of trying out different powders to find one your rifle likes.
I've loaded for quite a few different 7mm mags over the years and tried quite a few different powders and bullets. None beat Sierra bullets and IMR 4350 powder and it doesn't matter what brand of rifle. I don't even try any other powders anymore for the 7mm mag. I go right to IMR4350.

I just got some Winchester 780 to try because with the current market powder is still hard to find. A fellow reloader went to it with good results. The only bad thing about Winchester powder is they have a habit of deciding on a whim to stop making powders. Usually about the time I've worked up a good load for that powder.
I don't load for the 7mm mag, but many manuals suggest RL19, and almost all of them like the 4350 powders. H4350 is my favorite for many of the medium rounds, only because it is supposedly less sensitive to temperature changes.
In my experience, unless you are loading to absolute max, the various 4350s are interchangeable.
I have found that Reloader 22 works real well for me with 160s Sierra and also with 160 Speer Gran Slam bullets. The velocity is very high with less pressure. I also believe I experience less recoil. You need to experiment with the bullet seating depth for optimum accuracy and that does not mean the bullet always has to be up against the rifling . Different guns can like the bullet seated differently. Very important factor.
