Two people wanted that one bad, and looks like the stock has been refinished.

A link is always nice.

Maybe a good 2000-2500. That gun is in real nice (NRA Ex.), shows little use. The stock most likely was lightly sanded altho laminated stocks did not take stampings too well. It has had a light coat of finish put on it---those stocks left the factory with no finish at all. The color is correct, little yellowed with age. Cupped butt plates were annouced in Jan. 40 but it took a year or more for all producers to comply. Using up old parts, changing machines, etc. That rifle was undoubtly made in Dec 42 as the low number, 19XX, has no prefix letter. The "capture papers" do add value to the gun, just as a SRS letter adds value to a US arm. Some collecters are really against refinished stocks but moderately done like this one I do not think is too bad. Its just what the GI's did, they wanted their bring-back to look good!

For that price it must of been Hitler's personal rifle.:eek::eek::eek: Looks like the price of 98K's just went up.

Well when some cmp Garands go for 3-5000 I can understand how this Mauser can. A Mauser such as this cannot be "restored" with all correct original parts, as an M1 can be, so you know it is original as it came from the factory. And such a rifle is much harder to find at this point in time. Yes someone wanted it real bad, several people did in fact---start price was 1.00, it takes at least two to tango.
I have an all correct INH I got from the CMP---what is it worth? What if I tell you that the trigger group was not correct when I got it--now what is it worth? No such question with that Mauser!

ar is not a common code and 42 is not a common date for a 98k anymore. Most were used up on the Eastern Front. Matching numbers, bringback papers, it all adds up. Kind of seems like a lot, but you just don't see them anymore like that.

I have a common byf44. All matching with original stock not refinished, lots of blue left. Mo import marks, but alas, no capture paper either. I bought it about a year ago and have standing offers of over 2 grand cash for it.

Yep, a little over a year ago:
