I have a M1D coming in from CMP with 4,269,727. Seems like the number would be an early one. What barrel date should it be wearing?

BArrel date doen't matter on M1Ds. They all started life as standard M1 rifles and were converted at Depots and who knows where else to M1Ds. The M1Ds could be built on any serial number or manufacturer receiver and still be a "real" M1D. That is why CMP documentation is so valuble for M1Ds. It is the only way to prove that the M1D was an M1D in service versus an M1D put together from a kit later on.

I have seen M1D rifles from the CPM auction with 5 and 6 digit serial numbers. M1Ds were converted from existing M1 rifles, so any serial number is possible. M1D barrels are dated 1952 and up.

As mentioned above, depot built and can have almost any serial number. The only important thing to look for is that the barrel have the correct Drawing number. D7312555. If the barrel does not have that number, then it's a bogus barrel made up with those blocks Numrich and Sarco (and others) used to sell.
