T-38 bolt

My bolt will not go back in.Any tips?

Push down on the magazine follower. With an empty magazine, the follower prevents the bolt from closing.

Did that,it starts to go over the follower then binds.

Take the bolt apart (safety, firing pin, and spring all out). Will the stripped bolt now go in? If not, something else is going on. Oh and make sure the extractor is in properly and lined up. Make sure the follower and spring are functioning properly.

Safety set to on? You should be engaging the sear about then....

I stripped the bolt,still binds.I'm thinking it might be binding on the ejector.

Pull the ejector lever out while trying to insert the bolt (that should pull the ejector out of the receiver, and clear of the bolt path.)

Did the bolt ever work properly? If so, what changed. By the way, is the bolt matched? (If it's an early type 38, it will be matched to an assembly number on the bottom of the receiver, not the last three numbers of the serial number.

Something is suspicious here. Like maybe a type 99 bolt in a type 38 rifle. That's why I asked if it ever worked properly.

I'm with Dean... Make certain that it's a T-38 bolt. Also, if the safety is in the on position and the bolt is un-cocked when inserting the bolt, you could park a truck on it and never get it closed!

This is a gun I bought last week.Bolt would cycle with force[could feel some binding]cleaned all,I suspect the ejector will know more when I GET STOCK OFF[fun].

OK,found the problem,everything works good until I reinstall the ejector.Pulled the ejector it had a small bur on it,stoned it seems to work better.

I've found that one can't always take a bolt from one type 38 rifle and put it in another. Guess they weren't up to interchangeability of parts like the US. Haven't found a Krag bolt I couldn't put in a different receiver yet.

That's why other countries stamped an assembly number or serial number on all the parts, because they were hand-fitted.
We used drawing numbers to denote the design of a particular part. But they were, for the most part, interchangeable.

I got to shoot the gun today,shoots good,ejects good.Now I have to do some reloading.Thanks everyone for the help.

Yup my carbine is like that too terrible trigger pull but with it's favorite load it's very accurate, that is once you get used to the trigger.
