View Full Version : 1903 Gun store find with .22 kit

Hi all... I wanted to get some opinions on this 1903. RTL already helped with some info. My friend at our local gun store got this the other day. I ended up taking it home. With the exception of the silver "ring" on the barrel, the metal seems ok. I don't think it has been refinished, it is a dark blackish finish. Serial 383267 RIA, barrel 8-28 SA. The barrel has a slightly greener tint than the receiver (receiver is black with a faint greenish tint under light). I am hoping the silver beauty ring comes off easy. The Bishop stock is slightly inletted for it. The .22 kit is (I think) an old Numrich .22 conversion. It is all in great shape, no instructions or box though. Interestingly, it takes Reising .22 magazines. I paid $500 for both. Anyone happen to have a correct era SA stock for it? I am hoping with the high serial number, the barrel receiver combo is original. Looks like a bolt miss match, older SA type bolt I think, with other parts marked Remington. Any opinions on restoration would be appreciated, thanks much.

Wow, did not think the kit was worth that much. I have not found any for sale, last internet stuff I found was from about 2010 that said the kit was worth $4-500 but only with box and instructions. I really want to restore the gun. Just from the pictures, do you think it is original finish? And an original barrel receiver? A Springfield stock from the mid to late 1920s be correct?
