If possible I would like an SRS check on the following:
3712816 w RA-7-44 Bbl
1241089 w SA 3-42 Bbl
1299607 w SA 4-38 Bbl.
Gents any help on these three would be nice.
ismith, I have a question for you sir... I am new into the world of 1903s, and am wondering what I would have to do to get my hands on similar books? My great grandfather was a Marine grunt in WWI, and I hope one day to be able to find a 1903 that was of Marine Corps provenance during his time in France. Thanks...
I've also heard that an individual rifle was issued to a Marine throughout their entire service career... if so, where would I need to look for this information? I have my great grandfather's discharge papers, but haven't noticed anything about a rifle on it.

Springfield Research Service sold both the books and CDs a number of years ago, but do not do so anymore, to my knowledge. Keep in mind that SRS has data on only about 5-10% of U.S. military firearms. A large number are simply sales receipts.
My uncle served with the Marines in WWI (not in France) and I found the serial number of the rifle issued to him (#165617), but no notation whether it was a Springfield or Rock Island. Needless to say, I've kept my eye open for that rifle!!
Rick, thanks for the SRS Information. Do they also have information on Garands?
Also, is there any chance you remember what form or document you found your uncle's rifles SN on? I might have some family members with other documents belonging to my great grandfather... I do have his medals, souvenirs, and much of his paperwork, but not anything that has a rifle SN on it, which would be incredible to find.
I have a 1914 Iron Cross he took from a dead German LT however, as well as his dog tags, original string and all... pretty incredible.

I sent for his records (copies, actually) from the National Archives.
Yes, SRS has information on M1 Garands, M1911s, Krags, etc.
Good deal, I will do the same... hopefully I will find something. In the meantime, if I come across your uncle's I will let you know.
Just keep an eye out for them on gun forum WTS ads and be prepared to spend some coin. I think I paid $500 for my 4 SRS books. Well worth it though in my opinion.
If any of you gents wouldn't mind taking a peek to see if a Springfield built M1 Garand SN 2297891 is in there I would be very appreciative... from the 30cal site I have noticed that the Marines seem to have received a lot of higher 1 million/lower 2 million numbered Springfields.

No luck. Not really that many M1 Garands in the books.
