You did not state the barrel length but I think US given to SFPD (Maybe San Francisco PD) and then turned over the SF Civil Defense later on. Or vice versa, who knows?

20in cyl bore. Bead front sight.
barrel and receiver #s match.
It was purchased from San Francisco area pawn shop.
