thanks Rick, I was just curious... as a Marine grunt, and the great grandson of a WWI original devil dog, I did a fair amount of research on 1903s to see if I could be lucky enough to get my hands on a likely Marine used rifle...

The earlier SN 230707 belongs to a friend of mine who has had it in a safe since the 1960s, it is in great shape, all original except for the stock. I figured I'd see if I could find out anything more for him.

The later SN 1499391 I have en route from a purchase, and it does display signs of USMC usage. The Hatcher Hole is present, there is a punch mark under the SN, the stock is void of cartouches beside the proof under the handle, and has the finger grips... however, the barrel is original to the receiver, so I won't be able to confirm wrench marks. There is no SN on the bolt, and the rear butt plate is the standard checkered one of the rifle's era. Basically, its 50/50, but it is in good shape and will be a nice addition.
