View Full Version : Newton
Gun show last week-end saw a Newton, .256 cal., used but not abused good condition. 800 bucks---suppose thats what they would go for? anyone know?
I would think the first model Newton rifle would be worth more then the second "Buffalo" Newton model. Were the sights mounted on the rear of the bolt and barrel band ?
Newton cartridge family:
22 Newton, 256, 30 Newton Western headstamp, 35 Newton Western headstamp, 33 Newton and 400 Newton. Both the 33 and 400 were not developed into production.
The 256 is easy to make
It had a rear barrel mounted open sight, and a front similar to a 03 Springfield, as I remember. The guy said it was the second model but I don't know how much he knew about them, he also said there were only two cartridges developed by Newton. I knew there were more but could not name them so didn't argue the point.
Charles Newton also designed the 22 Savage Hi power around 1911 for the Savage Model 99, later in 1912, he designed the 250-3000, also for the Savage 99. Later there was also a 276 and 280 Newton but not developed
