This rifle still has the no-bolt stock and the barrel is Feb 1907 (nice bore too) came from the estate of an old gunsmith about twenty years ago.
Here're my wife's and my five 03's. (she bought them all) Left to Right... 6-18 SA, 7-18 RIA, 7-18 SA, 11-19 SA National Match, 1-19 SA Mark I

I'll try to post a single photo of each as well that'll show better detail. Darn these iPhone camera's.
Here's the pristine color case hardening on the cut off of the 1920 National Match SA 1903 which appears to have not been used very much if any in its 94 years.

Excellent pictures, everybody!! Keep them coming! :D
You guy's all have Great 03's! Like Rick once said, wouldn't it be great if everyone lived within a mile of each other? What a 1903 gathering every so often. Hell, I'd build an old time Hardware store or Gun shop with a Potbelly wood stove in the middle of the room for everyone to sit and hang around while they would drink Free beer and eat Free cold cuts while everyone talked about guns, politics, guns, women, guns, etc. There would be old guns out in racks and guys would bring in their favorite shooting irons and knives and such. I actually remember an old timer and good friend who used to have a place like that in Kansas City, MO. Barney Joe Davies place. Paupers and kings all knew each other and old Barney always had the best of company while he'd pass around one of his old 03's, Krag's, trapdoors, Sharps, Winchesters etc.
This was not taken by me, but appeared on the Forum some time past. Just a beautiful pic

1923 '03 with 1 in 12" Winchester 30" barrel. Rear sight is 1/3 minute Lyman. Front is Winchester. Scope is a 5A. The palm rest appears to have lost some cork over the years, but actually has been reduced in places to fit the hand of the shooter.

The rifle is as I found it and I believe the way it left the USMC, it was bought from a widow as is and resold 1 year later to me by the same buyer that showed it to several collectors I know the day he stole from the old widow. They told me it had the A3 trigger housing when she brought it in and the wear patterns match the reast of the rifle. The scope is original as is the can purchased after I purchased the rifle. It also has a Remington cut-off the trigger guard is early Remington A3 and the modified handguard is a Remington '03 handguard if I recall correctly. I was just greatful to find it for sale and have the cash to buy it. Other USMC snipers have been noted with Stamped trigger housings I have been told from WWII photos but I have never seen the photo's. Many beautiful rifles in this thread. I let the Col. in charge of the USMC sniper rifle program at Quanico shoot it a couple years ago he was very impressed that the stock still has proper bedding points and will hold 1 MOA. with ease.
Not a 1903 but it is a nice rifle.. NIB

Thanks Rick; they really pale in comparison to some of the others shown, but then, I'm not an '03 specialist, that simply being the "late" side bookend to my SA collection.
It is a Springfield, 570865, barrel SA/11-13, small boxed JFC. Have a "very close" bayonet in equivalent (bright w/blue line) condition.

jmm03-Here are the only other photos that I could find. Should you need further detail, please advise and I'll forward them to your email address. I have trouble with photos to a forum for some reason. Also have rifle #1257703, a 1 in 10" twist Winchester. That rifle is not documented, but identical to this rifle other than twist.

On my USMC serial number 1031506 with the Sedgely 9-41 barrel, the mark inside the cut-off recess is an O also unable to find a proof stamp but that could have been removed ?
Additional photos
Rick- whats the meaning behind the mark you were referring to in the cut off well? A sub inspector's stamp, or is it USMC related by chance?
Rick, one of my USMC snipers also has a completely unmarked stock (except for the drawing number in front of the rear swivel), if it wasn't for the "O" marking in the magazine cutoff. And just recently bought an exactly identical rifle with nearly pristine stock which has the same "O" in the cutoff and the D1536-4 at the rear sling swivel. Both have no other markings, like the P proof.
Waiting for more pics.....This thread should be stickied. :)

Well, since we're opening this thread again, here's another of mine - a Remington M1903, one of the sol called "Red Star rifles. 3,024,801 with a 1-42 RA barrel and RLB-marked stock. The handguard was replaced at some point, but it was done in the UK. One of 200 imported from the UK by Will Levin.

What is the story again on the Red Star rifles? Were 1917s red-banded as well?
Rick the Librarian
04-26-2014, 10:50
Will Levin was an Air Force officer stationed in England after WWII. He found that through his connections he could actually import as many Remington M1903s as he wanted from those that had been used by the British in the UK. It took several years of paperwork, but about 1955, he imported about 200 of the rifles. He had intended to give or sell them to friends and shooters. About 72 were sold to the Red Star gun shop in California in the late 1980s. It was through this shop that these rifles became known and so this group of rifles has retained the name "Red Star" M1903s, even though most were not handled through the gunshop.
I have a data base of about 2/3 of the serial numbers. They run from about 3,004,000 to 3,136,000, although the vast majority were in the 3,020,000-3,055,000 range, along with a solitary mixmaster LN Springfield.
Another one of mine. Will be shooting it in the Vintage Sniper matches.
Very high ser.#1531276 Springfield.

You don't see too many nice original WWI-era M1903s. Nice!
Here are a couple of SC's. They are only a few thousand apart. One is in very good condition and used, 6 groove barrel. The other only appears to be proof fired.
Ray, here is a photo of my four digit 1903, what is the barrel date on your s/n 4664 ?
The bbl date is 2-06, what is yours. Oops, just noticed that yours is a Springfield rifle were as mine is a Rock Island. Apples and oranges as they say, Ray

I have RIA #16,093 - has a RIA 6-05 barrel date, the earliest I have seen, although I know there is a 10-04 date out there pictured in books.
Rick, That's a pretty early dated barrel. I assume it was altered from 30-03 as mine was? And how about your stock? was it an altered rod bayonet stock or in a regular non altered 08 dated stock like mine? Ray

It wasn't an altered RB stock. It was a 1908 like yours.
I do have a 1906-marked altered RB stock which isn't mounted on a rifle, which was restored by Rick Borecky. I bought it to go on another RIA I was restoring but it wouldn't fit - the FRSB on the rifle was the "solid" variety. I keep hoping to find another 1908 or 1909 RIA stock I can trade for.

Springfield Armory, 11-17 S.A. barrel
Springfield Armory, 7-18 S.A. barrel
Springfield Armory, 11-19 S.A. barrel, 1920 National Match
By the way, that's a wooden Spare Parts Container I'm using to prop up the National Match rifle on the table.
I'm embarrassed to admit I don't own a 1903. An 03A3 that was "match prepped" with old time(yellow) bedding and a timney trigger and Lyman sights. It's one of my favorite rifles.
Heck, that's Great! Is it a good shooter? I've never even fired any of mine yet. Gonna have to do something about that!
Oh yes, it's pretty accurate even with some of the bedding starting to pull away in places.
I have just joined today, this is my first post, and I wanted to say hello to everyone.
I have had this ole girl for a number of years and now when I really need them, I realize I have never taken really good photos of the rifle. But these are some I have and I wanted to share them with you.
It is listed thru Springfield Research Servive.
And when I do my part, it shoots pretty well.

Ok, here were mine. Both were tack-drivers and a pleasure to shoot.

This is my nice little A4. When I got her, the stock was cracked and just a piece of cordwood, and the scope was missing although she had the mount. I found Weaver's civilian version of the sniper scope and mounted it all in a CMP stock. She is a head-turner at the range, and with my handloads will keep 5 rounds in a 1.25" group.
