I worked in a gun shop when I was a teenager and remember a customer trading a 1903 for a commercial rifle. I bought this rifle then from the shop as it looked so new. I was new to military rifles and didn't know what a scant stock was. The story I remember was his commanding officer told him he could take his rifle home, but he "traded" his issue rifle for one hanging up somewhere on the base. Interesting enough, this rifle had a new '33 barrel with MW < 0 and both the rear ladder and follower where polished free of parkerizing. I don't remember what branch of service he was in and wonder if a SRS search might reveal that fact? The serial number is 1099205. I may actually fire this rifle this year to see if it still works. No matter, this is one fine looking rifle. If I had a camera I'd post some pictures as it looks so new.
