Just a quick pic of my 1917 from England

It's mostly Eddystone with a Rem bolt and a few W parts. I like the Red paint although it looks like it from two different rifles! Sort of a twofer.

I wonder if the 30-06 stenciled on the red paint is standard. I never noticed that on other LL M17s.

My Canadian M1917 from Winchester has the same markings. The rifle is one of the 1917 dating ones and comes with a Canadian marked 1917 production bayonet from Winchester, aswell as a Canadian marked sling.

Beautiful pictures. I just purchased my first Model 1917 and it definitely is a cool weapon. It's a Winchester, dated August 1917, receiver appears to match barrel (serial number 4878), Canadian marked, Winnie bolt (mismatched numbers), and an Eddystone stock. Mint bore. The red paint on mine looks very similar to the most recent picture on this thread because the paint doesn't match up.

it is sorta funny, i have a canadian/danish LL, and it too has mismatched red paint on the handguard. maybe has something to do with being proofed before being sold back the the U.S.A.?

Since somebody asked(I'm late in replying)- The guy that sold it to me said he had never shot it, but somebody did and it has some modifications. First the look. This is what caught my eye. Same figure on both sides.

Yes, that's a roll pin. Actually I like it. It fits right under the bull and I got a nice 2" group with it @ 85 yrds.

I cannot say who modified the follower, but I have seen the same on Danish L/L rifles. The front sight pin is aswell a Danish modification, which was done for the Home Guard rifles.

Since Denmark received their rifles both from Canada and from Norway (who once again received their rifles from Canada) it can be that there was one among them which has had the red paint added.

thats really georgeous wood on the buttstock, too bad some fool cut the hook off. and as mentioned above, the roll pin front sight was a danish modification.

the hook of wood on the buttstock. look at a few pic's of 1917's, and you'll see what it is. it is too bad they cut the buttstock, as it does affect value by a bunch.

That's probably my fault. I kind of cut off the bottom of the stock in the pic. I lined up my two 1917's and they are identical. Both have the curve at the end of the buttstock. Had me worried.

Just bought a m1917 Remington 626xxx and m1917 bayo with what appears to be a p14 scabbard. The bayo is one of the left over British bayos with the proofs cross-hatched out and U.S. property stamp applied. Wears a like new JA two groove barrel. In examining the rifle I noticed remanents of red paint on the handguard. I had assumed the p14 scabbard was mis-matched to the bayo, but now am wondering if the p14 scabbards were purposely matched to m1917 bayos bound for England? Anybody know? New to m1917s so forgive me is this is a stupid question.

That's probably an eagle head.

My Canadian M1917 has the Canadian broad arrow on the left side of the receiver, rear of receiver, and buttstock. Give you some spots to look. My red paint is still there but most was cleaned off by someone. Its one of my better shooters.

I have two winchesters that have remnents of red paint. One has the bolt serialized to the receiver. The other has the canadian "C" and broad arrow and "55 RCA" on it.
Both had the followers milled and coil spring ejectors installed. Both are CAI import marked.

I also picked up a 1917 L/L with the same red paint w/30-06, the modified follower and the roll pin for the front sight. Up until this post I was ready to buy a new front sight and follower but I guess I'll hold off on that idea.

Mine has the milled follower as well. Not sure about the ejector spring mod. I'll have to check.
