View Full Version : New M1903
Here are a few pictures of new M1903A1 I put together to use for the Vintage Sniper matches. Next up is getting it drilled and tapped, some Steve Earle blocks put on, and a Chinertl for the time being.

That looks awful nice just the way it is. You sure you want to drill and tap?
I built it from the ground up, and now that it is fully assembled it is going to be tough to drill. I spent a long time looking for a barreled action with signs of Marine Corps usage and in the right SN range, and overall my investment into it is about as much as what a suitable sporter would cost me. Its definitely a parts rifle, and the determining factor will be how it groups at the range. Also, I think Bubba might have gotten to it as it was already drilled and tapped for a Lyman 48, and I think it is beyond the SN range of when Springfield did the drilling.
It has a HS barrel that is in great shape, so I have high hopes.
Below is a pic of where it was drilled and tapped:

Well now, if it's got two holes then a couple more won't hurt.

That's not much past the NRA Sporter range - and, do my eyes detect the rounded receiver ring?
Mr Hosmer, the receiver ring is not rounded like an NRA Sporter. It is of the same cut as my 832,XXX receiver.
There is a bit more wear on the edge, so the pictures do sort of give that illusion.
