HI:
Just got a old service from a friend that needed money. The top end is all original and the receiver is a 1911A1 Ithaca. Under the firing pin retainer is the numbers 567, what do the numbers mean.? Is that the ser.# of the top end. ? Also, is there any way to tell year of top.? On the right side it says (Colt service 22 long rifle model). Also, would you have a idea what the aprox value would be as a shooter or service ace top and ithaca 1911A1 frame.?
Thanks for the help.

This is when pictures help. Are you sure the markings you describe are on the left side? What is the finish; blue or phosphate? If 567 is the complete number under the firing pin retainer, that is the serial number of the Service Model Ace that the upper came from, and would have been built in the 1937/38 time period.

You have an early upper in the original finish from a Service Model Ace. The slide markings and the rear sight are slightly different from the later SMA's.

Not bad, as the upper functions just as well as a conversion unit, and most conversion units are priced in the $400/500 range, so that doesn't leave you with much in the Ithaca lower. The trigger in the Ithaca lower is a 1911, and the slide stop appears to be blue.
