TulAmmo?

Since CCI #34's seem to be non existant- does anyone know anything bout TulAmmo large rifle primers w/nato specs?-Midway is supposed to have by 5/31 /14--also does anyone know if fed 215's are thick enough to pass for nato specs?

I was given 100 Tula and used them up. They all went bang. Based on impact impressions of firing pin I think they are harder than Federals and CcI. Cant answer 215 question.

Wolf and Tula primers are just as good as our USA name brand primers, and alot cheaper to boot! In fact, if you have primer pockets where primers are easily installed, use Wolf or Tula, they seem to fit tighter as they are a bit larger in diameter. I bought Wolf when we had the last crisis and many of my friends said they were substandard and didn't go bang all the time. I bought 2 cases of the Tula 223 magnum primers last year.
In the 8 years I have been using both brands, I have not had one primer failure and that's about 15,000 rounds of ammo loaded.
Instead of MidwayUSA, try Powdervalley for Tula primers, you won't go wrong!

I was priming some cases for a friend to reload himself. He provided the russian primers and one went off in the priming tool. No damage to me except scorched fingers. And yes I cleaned all the primer pockets before priming. I'll stick with CCI primers.

+1 on Wolf primers. I use them for .223, .308, and .30-06. When I loaded .30-06 Lake City brass the first time after swaging the primer pockets, the primers were a tight fit. I had to hit some of the pockets with a deburring tool, I would do that if the primer felt tight going in. I was using Winchester brass for the .223 and .308 and it was easy to seat the primers. I'm out of the magnum small rifle primers and would like to buy another 5000 when they're available again.

Looks like powdervalley is out of Tula's-- as far as tight fit -- some thread stated that nato specs primers are sumthing like .006 bigger diam than comercial-I have a bunch of Nat Match 308 that was all shot in my M14- assumed it had the larger pocket?? will have to ck- have 215 fed's for any rifle scope & any rifle iron & my across the course gun - but am getting old & big mag across course is getting a little much = thinking about going back to gass gun for across course..

Loaded up some . 30 carbine with said Tula primers.
All went bang, no 2nd strikes needed. Seem to be just
as good as any CCI 41 or CCI 34.

Several years ago, some if not quite a bit of both of the imported Russian 7.62mmX39mm (SKS & AK47ammo) & the 7.62mmX54mmR were advertised as being non-corrosive............... Soon afterwards, the advertising switched to saying it was only "mildly corrosive".......... whatever that meant...... So whenever the Russians now tell our importers & dealers that neither their primers nor their ammo is corrosive, I take it with a grain of salt.........

I ran a test to compare velocities of a series of primers, including Tula 7.62, with my standard 30-06 match load of 168 SMK 47.0 grs IMR 4895.

I have lots of 174 FMJBT's, five gallon buckets of LC match brass, so I used those and all the primers I have rolling around the reloading room. Any load I have developed with 174’s is perfectly safe with 168 match bullets.

I do not recommend the use of Federals in Garands, Federals are the most slamfiring primers around, so I am not publishing any federal primer data in my Garand, because someone may think it might be an endorsement of use.

I used the great old WLR nickel plated primers. These were made prior to 1999. Winchester changed their primers in 1999 to make them "more" sensitive and changed the primer color to brass. These brass Winchester primers have thinner cups than the older version I do not recommend their use in Garands/M1a's. I also do not recommend the use of brass WSR as primer piercing in my AR's ate up a handfull of firing pins at loads that never bothered the great old nickel plated WSR.

Tula 7.62 primers were advertized by Graf as equivalent to CCI #34 primers. CCI #34 primers are advertized as being “mil spec” primers by CCI. Mil Spec primers are the only appropriate primers to use in Garands and M1a’s as they are less sensitive than commercial primers and greatly reduce the risk of an out of battery slamfire.

Tula 7.62 and Wolf primers shot very well and I have been using Tula 7.62 in matches, I have a high confidence in their accuracy ability.

I hope this isn`t a dumb ???. But were you shooting off hand , prone, or sitting at a bench & resting the rifle on bags or the like?

These targets are from 100 yard reduced Highpower Matches. These targets were fired in competition, prone, with a sling, with iron sights, loaded one at a time, within a time limit of 20 minutes. These are 20 shot groups.
