Over the past couple years, I've collected about $200 in Bass Pro Shop Gift Certificates. I want a 1911 type Automatic, but I have very little information. Which brands seem to be most popular? What would be your choice for targets and plinking......thank you.

I would look at the Remington Remington Model 1911 RI. I believe there is a rebate on this one.

A wide open subject here that will bring many opinions. If money is an issue the Remington like Johnny mentioned or the RIA but I don't know what brands Bass Pro Shop sells. You won't find any bargains there. You may be better off using your gift certificates to buy ammo at Bass and do your 1911 shopping elsewhere.

http://www.basspro.com/Remington-Model-1911-R1-Pistol/product/1108301742475/ The rebate is for $75.00 or a new barrel (up grade).

For about $750 and shipping you can get a new .45 Springfield Armory Range Officer. It's an outstanding pistol for the dollars.

For $475 he can get the Remington by redeeming his his $200 in gift certificates, and the $75 rebate from Remington.

I work with a guy who recently bought a Remington pistol. I have not fired it, but it appears to be a nicely made piece. I've owned Springfield Armory pistols and they're good, or at least the ones I've owned were, in fact I passed one on to my son who wanted a 1911 type pistol. If you can buy the Remington for under $500, I think you'd be making a mistake passing on it.

This is what happened....I took Allen's Advice. I saved the gift certificates and bought the Remington R1 Stainless from Bud's Gun Shop. Compare:
Bass Pro Shop $799.00
Sales Tax 41.94

Total $840.94

Bud's $675.00
Shipping Ins 7.00
Fee 25.00

Total $707.00

Savings 840.94 - 707.00 = 133.94 Savings and I still get the rebate.....Now for some more advice: Take the $75 or the Storm Lake Barrel?
