Picked this up off of GB.
I was fortunate to get it.
These things are more rare than hounds teeth.
I was told that Colt is no longer going to be permitted to put "USMC" on the slide after May.
Based on that and the fact that they are not making a lot of them per month, I think it will hold its value.
Cant wait to shoot it.

What did it set you back if you don't mind sharing.

Around here hound's teeth are common, but hen's teeth are rare.

I think someone is making more attachable rails for that pistol, as well as a touch up kit.

The Marine Corps generally does not license the use of USMC or the EGA. I do believe it is trademarked. I can only think of one firearm that I have seen that is marked USMC PROPERTY and that is the Remington 40X that the Corps purchased in the late 1950's.

Didn't the United Shoe & Machine Co. make barrels or bolts for the Model 1917 Rifle? Colt could just call it the USMC Commemorative.

Yes, Johnny P. the United Shoe & Machine Co. (USMC) did make something that the uninitiated buy as U.S.Marine Corps marked and get took big time. If Colt calls it a USMC Commemorative, I do believe they would have to pay royalties to and be licensed by the Corps to use that logo.

I haven't been able to find anything credible regarding the discontinuation of the USMC stamp on the slide, does anyone have a link to this?

Wonder how much United Shoe & Machine Co. has to pay the Corps? Or the United States Maritime Commission?

Probably nothing. As they are not trying to make money off of the name of the Marine Corps.

I only am sure of three things.

1. Lt.Gen Wm. Keys, USMC (Ret.) was the CEO of Colt when the 1911 project was launched.
2. Lincoln Shoe Polish no longer has the wording "USMC approved" on the can!
3. My Type 1 RR built at Quantico by MgySgt Ed Leighton is/was USMC approved!

:)

I've really been enjoying my Marine Colt! Tight fit, but reliable; great trigger. I like it. But I had to special order a holster, as the rail area aeems to be fatter than most 1911's with rails. Let me know if you want more info and I'll post a couple photos and a link to the holster maker.

Good Luck and Good Shooting,

Tommy

I notice it has three stars on the slide which would be Lt General's insignia of rank. Maybe someone was playing up to the "G".

I saw the part about Colt no longer putting USMC on the slide on the internet.
I saw it on a few different forums but I cant find them right now.
One of them said that they spoke to a guy from the Colt custom shop and confirmed that after May they would stop.
If I can find them again I will post a link.
I am not 100% sure that this is true, this is just a rumor that I saw posted on the internet.

As far as cost, it was more than $2000 and less than $3000.
Most go for over $3000 on GB.

As for the holster, yes Texas Red, please post some photos and the link for me, I would appreciate it.

Went to the range today.
I love this gun.
Drives tacks.
I am not the greatest shot but my first 3 shots were in the bulls eye.
It was down hill from there but not too far down hill.:icon_wink:

Here's the link - http://www.tuckergunleather.com/

Here are some shots of the holster. Mine is plain cowhide, but they offer fancy stuff. The discoloration in different spots is good, clean sweat; which I supplied my own self. <G> I can't remember what this holster model is called, but they do not list it in their on-line catalog. And I don't know why. I have 2 of them, one for a regular 1911 and this one for the Colt Marine Pistol; and a half-dozen of my friends have all ordered the same holster. But they still don't include it in their catalog.

So, if you decide to inquire; tell them you are interested in the "Tommy Teas" model, not a pancake type. And be sure to tell them it's for a Marine Colt.

The other holster of this design they made for me, for a regular 1911, is part of a complete rig; made of elephant. I should probably post some pics of that rig. Some folks might be interested...

Thank you for posting the holster.
I think I may order one myself.
Looks very nice.
