Hi,
I picked up this WWII era Colt 1911a1.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Looks like a nice original Colt. What are the barrel markings?

I shot some photos of a late Colt for a friend, and the assembler number on it was 1 also.

All the barrels from 1938 until the end of 1944 had those markings. What marking is ahead of the barrel lug.

There is an "F" under the barrel just a head of the barrel lug.

That would be the correct marking for your Colt's serial number range.

Should the slide release and the thumb safety be blue?

No. The slide stop and safety lock are phosphate finished like the rest of the pistol. The only parts blued were the barrel and magazine.

I paid a pretty penny for it but it is in beautiful shape so hopefully it will hold its value over the long haul.

I am actually a member of your site.
I have compared my 1911a1 to the closest serial numbered Colt 1911a1s in your gallery and everything seems spot on to me.
All the parts seem correct after field stripping.
Your site was very good source in helping me pick a nice Colt 1911a1.

Very nice indeed. Did you drop the firing pin stop to check that the slide matches the frame ?

Looking at the matching finish , I'm certain that it does. Truly a lovely example of my favourite pistol.

That one will not have the slide numbered. The numbered slides stopped in the 1.138M range in Nov. 1943. But there are all kinds of things to look at which will help verify originality of slide to frame, to barrel, to hammer, grip safety, MSH. You just have to look closely and know what to look for.

Mine is in the same condition only it's a 1.6 mil so no s/n under the firing pin stop.My blued one in the 700 K range has a numbered slide of course.I would have to have dug out my Clawson's "big book" to verify the cutoff s/n for numbered slides.
