Has anyone seen this Winchester carbine on GB? It looks to be almost flat new. I am surprised it hasn't gone higher.
Here is the Auction # 407617853
Your link doesn't work. But all of the Winchester carbines listed on GB are bad restorations or rebuilt.
I can't figure out which one you are talking about. Give the auction number.

Doesn't look right to me for many reasons -- but I'm no expert on carbines.
for the kind of money their asking I'd expect a sling, oiler and bayonet.

Tuna,
If all of the carbines listed on GB are restored or rebuilt, then where can we find the factory original carbines listed for sale????????????

The only originals that one will find are bring backs by vets. There are none left in as made shape as they were all issued to US troops over the years or they went overseas. A few of the old DCM carbines were as made but those are long gone into collections. They do surface now and then but you have to know your carbines to be sure of what your getting. This one that is linked to has something about it that isn't quite right for a carbine made about June 1945 and I cannot quite put my finger on it yet. I do know the front sight has been off the carbine and from the pictures I cannot tell if it is a Winchester sight or not. The butt plate is not tight against the stock and it should be by now. The Z stamp on the grip is a possible rebuild stamp. Not known for sure. I will have to pull out my 6.6 range when I can get a chance and compare it to this one.
Tuna....take a look at the feed ramp. Its parked. What does that say to you? And the crossed cannon doesn't look quite right, but I can't tell because of the lack of a close-up. The oiled stock looks too under oiled to be right. I agree with you. Something doesn't look right about this carbine.

The texture of the metal finish is wrong like it has been sand blasted. Original Winchesters never looked like that. Stock has same problem too rough of surface texture.
Can anyone make out the SN? My tired eyes can not.
Bug, It is in the 6.59 million range about May 1945.
Damn, you boys are good!! All that from pictures too! It is not true however that the only original carbines are vet bring backs. Don't know where that tid bit of info came from.

I get all excited when I hear 6,6. I have a 6,624 with DCM paperwork that makes me smile...
The only all original as made carbines that were not vet bring backs were the very few that were sold by DCM in the early 60's that had not be rebuilt. Most of the DCM carbines had at least a partial rebuild and with most being completely rebuilt. If you find an original as made carbine the odds are it's a vet bring back.

Well, it didn't sell. It was bid up to $1,600 but that did not to meet the reserve price. So I guess the same things that
we questioned scared bidders away.

Best I can make out by zooming in on the photo is 6693...then it looks like it may end with a 1. I thought it looks like one of the early DCM guns, which the seller mentions, with the park so crisp and the wood light and dry like it is.

If that partial serial number is correct, that is at the very end of the Winchester 6 million serial number block, right before the 7 million block of WRA carbines.

The bolt seems to have a lot of wear compared to the rest of the metal; also I don't see a proof mark on the bolt. I emailed the seller asking for the S/N, but the Sgt didn't reply. The best I can see from zooming in on pics 15 &19 is 6893391. I know, the S/N block didn't go that high, but the second digit doesn't look like a 5 or a 6 to me. Check it out.
