Am I being overly careful, or does the SA GAW and Ordnance wheel not look right.

Here is an original SA GAW rebuild stamp on a Winchester M1 rifle stock. You can compare these stamps

You ever tried using stamps?
I can't count the times I've slipped and busted my fingers or smashed something I wasn't supposed to. Not every stamp job comes out perfect, they're done by hand and people get tired or have accidents. Wood fibers do funny things over time too. Get used to it, it's not a perfect world.
And it doesn't make it a fake if it's not all lined up and done with a CNC hydraulic press in a nuclear lab either.

Yep. Stamping can be easy to goof up, but the fact is, people are faking them. In this picture the stock does not appear to be recently refinished and the lines of the stamp seem to have accumulated oil, sweat, and dirt just like you would expect. I think it is legit. That's my 2cents.

hmmmm. the crossed cannons look to be suspect...as does the R.I.A marking on a 1966 dated sling.

Not sure but the sling may be marked 1956

Look real to me.
wish Rick Borecky could see it.......... I've got too bad a serious case of CRS about all the wonderful facts & notes he's given over the years on cartouches..............he's kept me from getting hooked twice for some serious money on 2 Garand stocks that had cartouches that had been "improved" .......... the only thing he'd take is a thank you too.

Rick B is definitely the person to ask - try PMing him. The stamp looked a little "deep" to me, but far from an expert on these.
I don't like the looks of them. One of the finger grooves looks to be sanded down a good bit. Stamps seem deep. I get enough of a feeling to pass on it, for sure.
