View Full Version : A mint, right out of the Time Machine that must've brought it back...

M-1907 sling. It had thick, green verdigris all over the brass claws which are covered in a dark mustard patina. The leather is wonderfully supple and in mint ... yes, mint unused shape. And yet, there is no makers mark on the sling anywhere. No stamping at all. The sling just came in the mail after I'd won it on eBay. I used a tooth pick and a tooth brush to clean the verdigris off of the claws and the leather where each hook had been attached. Both keepers are present of course. The sling cost me $150.00, but that's OK. I mean it's Mint. I can't imagine where it's been or even if it was made around WWII. Some WWII contractors were still using brass claws for awhile until switching over to steel. Anyway, It didn't take long to figure out that the sling belongs on my Mint 1920 National Match 03 Springfield. It looks Great of course and both rifle and sling now appear as if they've both been transported to the present from the 1920 Camp Perry National Matches via time machine. I'll post some photo's of everything in a few minutes. I've got to take them first.

A real beaut, as always. Just for curiosity, does the handguard have a fixturing slot?

Fred

Rick, any idea when that feature was stopped in production?

JB could fill you in but the fixturing slot was dropped I think about 1920-21.
